What Does a Whiteboard Afford? Rethinking Collaboration Through Shape and Design

As a business that has spent the last 12 years helping businesses create collaborative spaces we have seen how the right whiteboards combined with intent to drive collaboration can produce enjoyment and positive outcomes. Over that time, we have delivered innovation in product to support large and small businesses embrace emerging processes and thinking such as design thinking and agile project management which determined what sort of whiteboards and how they would be used.

We have for a long time understood the benefits of ‘affordance’ in design and have recently found a new product manufactured in Spain. The product is wall mounted, frameless, easy to install and offers something new and different.

It is our Skin Shape range which brings a level of affordance I think businesses and education would be most interested in.

What is affordance?

“An affordance is what an object or environment makes possible for the person (or animal) interacting with it. A chair affords sitting. A handle affords pulling. A flat plate on a door affords pushing. The term describes the relationship between a thing and its user, capturing what actions are available based on the properties of both. It’s a concept that started in psychology and became one of the most important ideas in modern design.”
